We have decided to do a more in-depth explanation of why quinoa is such a great addition to your diet, and a little bit more about what kinds of Royal Quinoa products Pure Organic Foods has available.
Quinoa has been referred to as one of the ultimate ‘superfoods’ we can eat and here’s why: Royal quinoa is the only vegetable food source that’s a complete protein. This means that it contains 18 amino acids (including the nine essential ones). Amino acids are the building blocks of life and their essential task is the transportation and storage of nutrients. This process allows us to grow and develop, process food, repair body tissue and perform many other bodily functions keeping us healthy and alive. Because quinoa is a vegetable protein it is easy to digest and it is the perfect food for maintaining a balanced and complete diet.
The name “Quinoa” is the Spanish spelling of “quechua” from the Inca language meaning “mother of all grain” and it truly is, even though it is technically a seed. Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah) is a great source of vegetable and mineral protein for people who are vegan, vegetarian and lactose intolerant. Quinoa is an ideal source of calcium and vitamins such as Vitamin B complex, C, E, thiamine and riboflavin. It is a perfect choice for adding an abundance of vitamins and nutrients to your diet, especially if you don’t eat meat or dairy.
Our Quinoa is Royal Quinoa
There are many varieties of quinoa available in stores but Pure Organic Foods only carries Royal Quinoa, which is the highest quality and most nutrient-rich variety of quinoa available in the world. Pure Organic Foods has royal quinoa available in white, red and black. Quinoa is very simple to cook and takes only 20 minutes from start to finish. Once cooked, it stores in the fridge for up to five days and can be used for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are so many amazing quinoa recipes available so it’s a food you will never get tired of.
White quinoa is the most known variety of quinoa in North America. It is readily available in most supermarkets and health food stores. So what’s the difference between royal and regular? White Royal Quinoa is much fluffier than regular quinoa, a bit nuttier in flavour and packs more nutrients per scoop. Once people try our Royal Quinoa they rarely return to eating generic quinoa because it just tastes so much better. White royal quinoa can be used in a variety of dishes such as salads, soups, burgers and even cake and is a perfect substitute for white rice. The traditional cooking method is one-part quinoa to one-part water, bring to a boil, turn the heat back and simmer for 15 minutes. Once it’s cooked, it should stand for five minutes before fluffing with a fork and serving. If you enjoy your White Royal Quinoa a bit crunchier you can always reduce the amount of water to achieve your preferred texture. White royal can be cooked on it’s own or mixed with red and black in the pot.
Red royal quinoa was traditionally known for increasing the stamina of Inca warriors because of it’s high protein content. Like black and white quinoa, red quinoa has a light, fluffy texture when cooked, and its mild, slightly nutty flavour makes it an alternative to wild rice or couscous. It is very healthy just like white and black, but each colour does vary slightly from one to the next in terms of protein and nutrient content. Red and black royal quinoa are a bit crunchier than white royal but the cooking times are the exact same. Black royal quinoa is more rare and harder to find in stores than white royal quinoa. Both black and red have a bit more crunch than white and are a perfect addition to fresh salads and soups and pair well with bold flavours.
